About ZYAH
ZYAH started playing the piano by ear at the age of 4. She then began private lessons and studied classical music for 15 years with various renowned instructors including Alfred Mouledous at Southern Methodist University.
However, she always had the urge to create music, not just read and recite. As an adolescent she would “embellish” Bach, Beethoven, or Debussy with her own riffs and melodies, which was unfortunately highly frowned upon.
She also loved singing and participated in talent shows and All-City choirs growing up but had never combined the two arts of singing and playing keys simultaneously until high school. The latter naturally led her into becoming a recording artist and songwriter.
Once she started college at The University of North Texas she began singing around campus and local venues in Denton, TX. The positive reception she received gave her the confidence and confirmation to pursue music as a full- time career. She continued gigging in Dallas, developing her songwriting, taking vocal lessons, and recording more music.
Her growing reputation in the Dallas music scene led to her signing a record deal with High Standardz, LLC. She released her self-produced debut EP, “I’ve Been In Love” the following year and got her first major placement co-writing the title track and lead single for the movie “The Hate U Give” directed by George Tillman Jr.
Her sultry vocal tone, clever lyricism, fluent bilingual (English & Spanish) capabilities and piano accompaniment make her live performances extremely unique and captivating.
ZYAH has performed at some of the most renowned venues in Dallas including the Trees, House of Blues, the Palladium, Grenada Theater etc She has also taken her live show across the US, performing at The BET Experience (BET Awards Weekend) in Los Angeles, CA and touring nationally as a guest on the Def Jam x Courvoisier “Icons on The Rise” Tour sharing the stage with acts like Bobby Sessions, Valee, Arlissa, Bibi Bourelly, and more.
In 2020, the reality of the global COVID-19 pandemic pushed ZYAH to lean more into songwriting and sync work due to the shut down of music venues and health risks around live shows. Since then ZYAH has landed an onslaught of songwriting placements from Academy Award nominated movie Coming 2 America starring Eddie Murphy, The Rookie on ABC, The Equalizer on CBS, MTV Movie Award Nominated TV series Wolf Pack (a Paramount Original), Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, All American (CW), Black Lighting (CW), Blue Beetle (Warner Bros), Peloton, Apex Legends (EA Sports), Emmy-nominated The One and Only Dick Gregory Documentary (Showtime) etc and worked with major artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Kaliii, BIA, Wale, The World Famous Tony Williams and so on.
The Memphis-born, Dallas raised classically trained pianist turned songwriting powerhouse and recording artist was previously signed to Grammy Award winning record label and talent management company High Standardz/DefJam (Coco Jones, Lady London, TA Thomas etc). She is currently re-branding, switching genres and releasing “God Centered” music independently with a digital distributor. The campaign for “Magic” was featured in Murci UK, Iseehair Beauty, Neo2Soul playlist, Soul Era Records, etc. The release also landed a brand partnership with Firmoo Optical Eyewear, Slide Jewelry, and LuvMe hair company.
